Sanam Luang

This is an oval public ground right in front of the Grand Palace enclave. It is used for various royal ceremonies, including the Royal Ploughing Ceremony held in May every year, and is surrounded by several noteworthy institutions.

On the south-east corner is the City Pillar Shrine or San Lak Muang placed there by King Rama I as the foundation stone for the new capital of Bangkok.
